REVISIONS TO THE BRITISH GUIDELINES ON THE MANAGEMENT OF ASTHMA

The British Guideline on the Management of Asthma, a national clinical guideline developed jointly by the British Thoracic Society (BTS) and the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN), was recently revised. The aim of the guideline is to provide comprehensive advice on asthma management for patients of all ages in both primary and secondary care, that will be of use to all health professionals involved in the care of people with asthma in the UK.1

The revisions reflect a recent review of the sections specific to pharmacological management, occupational asthma, inhaler devices and audit and outcomes.

One of the key amendments to the guidelines was that children and adults with mild and moderate exacerbations of asthma should be treated by bronchodilators given from a pMDI + holding chamber with doses titrated according to clinical response. According to the guidelines, pMDI + holding chamber is at least as good as a nebuliser at treating mild and moderate exacerbations of asthma in children and adults.2

The AeroChamber Plus* Valved Holding Chamber (VHC) is the most recommended valved holding chamber in the world. Over 300 in vivo and in vitro peer-reviewed articles have been published in journals throughout the world. As a result of the evidence-based clinical application of the AeroChamber* brand of valved holding chamber, the AeroChamber Plus* VHC has become the world-wide market leader in valved holding chambers and is the only full line of products specifically designed for each patient type.

As a health care provider, we invite you to review the attached AeroChamber Plus* VHC Product Monograph.

The updated guidelines will continue to assist health care professionals in providing high quality, asthma management practices for patients and are available from:
