Regular Use of the AeroChamber Plus* valved holding chamber (VHC) and TruZone* Peak Flow Meter is Even More Important for Asthmatics During this Vulnerable Time of Year
While not necessarily dangerous for healthy people, influenza infections can be more serious for people with asthma. 'Flu' infections are common triggers of asthma attacks and, according to the American Lung Association, may be the cause of 80-85% of asthma episodes in children. The 'flu' can aggravate respiratory airways, and lead to asthma flare-ups and lung infections such as pneumonia.
Especially vulnerable during influenza season, patients should take extra precautions to keep their asthma under control. Adhering to a prescribed asthma management plan is extremely important, as is using a device such as a TruZone* peak flow meter (PFM), which can alert patients to unfavorable changes in peak expiratory flows even before symptoms present.
In addition, using an AeroChamber Plus* valved holding chamber with their inhaler helps ensure that respirable particles are delivered deep into the lungs - where they can provide the most benefit - and help patients overcome the challenges associated with proper inhaler technique.
