Air Pollution & Asthma

Air pollution is a key asthma trigger affecting thousands of Canadians every year. It can be visible or invisible and comes from many different sources including:

  • Motor vehicles
  • Industrial facilities
  • Fires

Extensive studies have shown that increases in air pollution result in a rapid increase in the number of hospitalizations due to asthma. It is estimated that in Canada, over 5,000 deaths per year can be attributed to air pollution.
