A nebuliser compressor (also called a nebuliser machine) is a medical device intended to deliver compressed air to a jet or pneumatic nebuliser. Compressors can be electrically, or battery powered.

  1. Place your compressor on a clean, flat surface.
  2. Inspect your nebuliser and ensure the green exhalation valve on the mouthpiece is facing down. Unscrew and remove the nebuliser top. Carefully place prescribed medication into the nebuliser cup and replace the nebuliser top. Keep the nebuliser in an upright position to prevent spills. The nebuliser may be placed in the cup holder on the compressor.
  3. Securely connect the tubing to the bottom of the nebuliser and to the air outlet on your compressor.
  4. In a comfortably seated position, switch on your compressor. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth, ensuring your lips are sealed around the edge but aren’t covering the green exhalation valve. If you are using a mask, place securely over the nose and mouth, ensuring a good seal.
  5. Breathe in slowly and deeply, then exhale normally through the device. Continue taking slow, deep breaths until the nebuliser begins to make a ‘sputter’ noise. Switch off your compressor when your treatment is complete.

Refer to the instructions for use for additional information.

Prior to cleaning the compressor, ensure the unit is unplugged from the electrical outlet. Use a damp cloth to wipe the exterior of the compressor housing. Never use harsh cleaners or chemical sprays directly on the compressor or its on/off switch. Do not immerse the power cord or unit in water or another liquid.
